Koh Lanta

We have been staying on Koh Lanta, Thailand for a week now. It is boiling hot everyday and night around 35 oC. We have done 10 dives with Lanta Fun Divers, using their speed boat which is great. In the morning they collect us at our beach and we are dropped back by 2pm. This is great in contrast to most of the other big slow dive boats on the Island that leave at 8 and return at 4 or 5pm.

Our only problem has been finding good accomodation as it is high season. We have moved 3 times which isnt quite the relaxing time we had expected to have. We had one great night in a large bamboo hut at Palm Beach resort, It came with a frog in the bathroom, which I removed. only to finf on return to the bathroom Frog Junior waiting! He had climbed up the drainpipe in the bathroom. So we kept him! I have to say the fire extinguisher was covered in rust and would not have done much to prevent a fire!

We then moved into a big air con bungalow as we were desperate to have a fridge. That gave us the chance to enjoy cold beer and drinks and for me to enjoy the lovely bottle of Amaretto i bought in Burme!

Today we have been playing frisbie on the beach. Chris had a massage the other day and got the only male masseur - he was very dissapointed as he had to keep asking him to do it harder!!!!!

During the diving we kept looking into the blue - well rather green water! but alas no Mantas or whale sharks for us. Some people have seen them from a different boat while we have been here - doh.

We did see some very special Rhinopias fish, one yellow and one pink. They are from the Scorpian fish family, similar to frog fish. We have also seen lovely Ghostpipe fish, leopard sharks, lots of Nudibranches and octopus and cuttle fish.

We had a nice day off from diving and went to Thai Cooking School. Chris wants me to improve my culinary skills! We learnt how to cook 4 dishes including the lovely Masaman curry all followed by Watermelon Ice Shakes!

Tomorrow (9th Feb) we leave via Air Asia flights to Kuala Lumpur and then to Tawau. We are heading for the islands of Sipadan and Mabul - despite the local weather forcast. It is rainy season there. But i want to brave it anyway. We are also hoping to spend Valentines day and My birthday in a Lodge in the rainforest looking for wild Orangutans etc.

Who knows what will be.

Deb - Hel suggested we try and arrange a time to do a Skype call on our birthday so please try and get your skype working. It depends where we and hel will be but we can try at least.

Lots of love to everyone back home.
Not long before we return to the cold!
Love Anna and Chris
