Yangoon

In Yangoon we visited the largest religious Pya of the whole of Burma. It was huge and filled with many smaller temples and stupas. They also have the large Bayan trees the Ghandi sat under. Everywhere you look is a mixture of gold leaf decoration, mirrors and patterns very delicately made. The amount of time that went into designing this place is truly amazing.
We also had the bext Italian meal of our lives here. Admittedly very expensive for being in Burma as it was UK prices but it was called L'Opera and we loved it. They also have on in Bangkok and the owner have just sold it for 6 million pounds. To drink fine wine in the middle of a trip filled with no wine was truly superb!
We also went to the Zoo. It was a mixture of surprise. I was expecting it to be awful. It was large with lovely gardens and was really a haven in a city. I fought through the crowds of people pushing to buy entry tickets - where are the nice orderly ques of Britain? It was a sunday after all and it was nice to see lots of children being taken out on a brilliant day trip.
However we were shocked at the lack of cages. A child could have be mauled, bitten, scratched and attacked quite easily. While looking at a tiger that was pacing up and down a teenage boy put his hand through the cage - your heart jumps it really does - but he was lucky.
The zoo keeper tourmented the lions and tigers to roar for the crowds. You could feed and practically touch the Hippos! They had some awfully overweight bears that sit begging for food with rolls of fat hanging off them. So some of the sights really werent good. But I have to say it wasn't as bad as I would have expected.
